Origami Scorpion
This instruction describes how to assemble a scorpion figurine using the origami technique. To create it, you need a square piece of paper and 20 minutes of free time, or maybe less, it all depends on your skills. There are a few steps, but there are difficult folds that are not easy to understand using the diagram. To overcome the difficulty, photographs and a detailed description are provided.
The scorpion’s claws look like real ones – large and strong for capturing prey. The curved tail ends in a stinger. In nature, it helps the scorpion hunt. The abdomen and back are made of plates resembling a shell, which serves as protection from predators. The shell can have different colors: yellow, black, brown, and even green. All that remains is to choose paper and dive into the process.
Place the square at an angle towards you and mark a vertical diagonal line.
Bring the sides to the resulting line and crease the folds.
Perform a complex inner fold on the right.
Fold all the corners of a narrow triangle in half with a valley fold so that they intersect at one point.
Pull the free corner folded in half towards the edge, and align along one line.
On the other side, make the same fold.
Turn the figure over.
Bend the top of the rhombus along the line connecting the corners at the widest part.
Place the sides together in the center, crease the folds, and turn the shape over.
On the reverse side, bend the top of the figure towards you as much as possible to open the triangles.
Pull the side of the small triangle from the center at the bottom up and align it with the center.
Press the triangle and crease the folds. Do it on both sides.
Fold all layers of the upper sides towards the middle.
Turn the figure sideways and flip it over.
Close the shape along the horizontal middle line. This is the body of a scorpion.
Move the sharp parts apart and bend back a layer of small corners.
The result would be the claws.
Turn the body of the figure with the tail part towards you.
Make three accordion folds in the forward direction and one in the opposite direction.
The result should be a shell and a sting.
Compress the body of the figure, pointing the tail with the sting upward, by adjusting the depth of the accordion folds.
Scorpio is ready.
