Origami Blintz Base

A Pancake is one of the basic origami shapes. These are the simplest designs, from which more complex figures are formed. Each of them is named after a similar object. In this case, these are square Japanese dorayaki pancakes with a filling.

We advise you to spend enough time on such basic elements, and to hone your skill in making them, because it is from these simple folds will largely depend on the quality of more complex origami shapes and figures. Try to practice on ordinary paper, and when you are already confident in each action, take colored origami paper of the shade in which you conceived the final figure.

Step 1

Take a square origami paper measuring 15×15 cm. Usually, this basic shape should be placed with the colored side on the table.

Step 2

Gently fold the paper diagonally. Opposite corners should meet very precisely.

Step 3

Smooth the crease well, then straighten it back.

Step 4

Do the same for the other two corners.

Step 5

Unfold the paper. You should get a square with two diagonal folding lines crossing its center.

Step 6

Now, fold any corner to the center and crease the fold line well.

Step 7

Repeat step 6 with the adjacent corner.

Step 8

Repeat step 6 with the third corner. Now, the design looks like an open envelope.

Step 9

Repeat step 6 with the last corner. The square pancake is ready!

An origami pancake is nothing like the round pancakes your mom makes. However, every origamist should be able to fold it to master more complex figures. Interestingly, from several identical basic shapes, a new origami figure can be obtained. You will definitely succeed!
