Origami Cherry Blossom

Sakura blossoms are the national symbol of Japan. Its branches are used by the inhabitants of the country of the rising sun to decorate their homes. And the Sakura blossom season gathers millions of tourists every year. It is difficult to take your eyes off these flowers. Sakura is a symbol of the fragility and transience of life.

Today we are going to show you, how to easily decorate your own house with sakura flowers, even if you are far from Japan. Below you will find step-by-step instructions on how to craft these beautiful blossoms in the origami technique. It will take you less than 10 minutes.

Step 1

For this origami, you will need a standard 15×15 cm square of paper and scissors. Pink-colored paper is ideal.

Step 2

Fold the square in half horizontally.

Step 3

Make two folds so that point D aligns with line AB and point B with line CD. Iron the folds well.

Step 4

Fold the left corner inward so that point C aligns with point E.

Step 5

Gently bend corner F outward.

Step 6

Do the same with corner J.

Step 7

You should get the same figure, as in the photo, resembling a paper airplane.

Step 8

Fold the shape in half and draw a cut line.

Step 9

Cut along the cut line and spread the delicate cherry blossom petals.

Step 10

To shape the flower, iron the fold lines in and out.

Step 11

Now assemble the flower into a “bud” as shown in the photo.

Step 12

Iron the folds of the bud carefully. First from one side.

Step 13

Bend one and then the other side of the shape a little bit.

Step 14

Now bend the left edge of the bud to the center.

Step 15

Carefully spread the petals, holding the center of the flower.

Step 16

Unfold the flower and slightly iron it with your fingers, putting the colored side down.

Step 17

Look at how beautiful it is! Now that you know it doesn’t take much time and effort, you can create dozens of such flowers and make up a bright garland to decorate your home and feel like in Japan.
